Aquatic Queen of Oswego County is a a project done in collaboration with my family immediately after the death of my grandmother. In the final years of her life, dementia made her own home feel unfamiliar. After her passing, the rooms she once inhabited and the objects she held seemed to retain parts of her spirit. My family and I returned to these places, rediscovering aspects of her identity that had been obscured by illness. Through her legacy, we continue to know her in new ways and reflect on how her memory and identity can persist—quietly and powerfully—in the spaces and belongings that once surrounded her.
